Research: At the Nelms lab, we are interested in understanding dopamine function at the molecular level due to its vast effects on cognition and motor control across the animal kingdom. We are investigating the roles and regulation of genes in dopaminergic neurons using Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) as a model system. I am particularly interested in the characterization and quantification of dopaminergic phenotypes using computer-aided video analysis systems.
