Research:The direct observation of neutrinoless double beta decay is currently the only known method to prove that neutrinos are their own antiparticle and the first Majorana fermion. The NEXT experiment aims to detect 0vββ decay in a Time Projection Chamber filled with high pressure 136Xe. The NEXT collaboration is  undertaking R&D on a novel experimental approach known as Barium tagging; in this process the detection of a single Barium atom after the decay of Xenon will be detected through SMFI (Single Molecule Fluorescence Imaging).
